Faced with the prospect of having some major dental work done and having been on Fosamax for three years without any results in the improvement of bone density, I stopped taking Fosamax and went on Osteophase. I have been taking 4 tablets a day for the last 9 months and my bone density test has improved. Last year while on Fosamax, it was .306 with a T-Score of 2.5. This year it is .338 with a T- score of 2.2. My doctor said it’s not a great improvement, but nevertheless an improvement.
While my doctor may not be very thrilled with the results, I am. However, I do have a few other questions. Other than the prospect of near future dental work, I have always been prone to kidney stones. It seems as though all the calcium the good doctors were recommending were ending up in the wrong place! The amount of calcium I am supplementing with Osteophase is 240 mg which is in my one a day vitamin supplement. My question is: Is this enough? By the way, D-3 is also in my daily vitamin which is 400 I.U. I also augment the D-3 with an additional 400 I.U. every day.
I obviously trust your good judgment since Osteophase appears to be working for me, but would like to know if I’m supplementing the right doses of calcium and D-3 for my particular proneness to kidney stones. I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
D.G.
Your improvement in bone density while taking OsteoPhase is actually very significant, especially since men and women typically lose 1-3% of their bone density per year. You can switch to taking 2 capsules per day of OsteoPhase and expect to see continued benefit. Since your bone density has increased, there is no need to add more supplemental calcium and 800 IU of D-3 per day is an excellent amount of that vitamin.
Be sure to include weight bearing exercise in your natural program– walking up and down stairs or hills is excellent. And, get adequate amounts of protein in your diet, as bone and muscle growth require good protein.

The next part of my “healthy living” will be to supplement my diet with Cardio Phase. My recent blood test showed my triglycerides to be 255, but the LDL is 161. Isn’t a high LDL good? Despite the 255? My family history on my mothers side (father’s unknown) is similar and they all lived (some still living) to be in their 90’s. However, I suppose it would be good to lower the triglycerides. I do take fish oil and have just started on an oil that is a 3-6-9 blend of omega fatty acids. Do you think taking Cardio Phase would be a good augmentation to this?
Your feedback would be most appreciated.
D.G.
Dear D,
Actually we have a better formula for blood circulation, including triglycerides and cholesterol. I recommend that you take Vital Cell rather than CardioPhase. CardioPhase is intended to strengthen the heart muscle, while Vital Cell is for improving the quality of the blood. Additionally, Vital Cell will support OsteoPhase in building bone density.
Sincerely yours,
