While your hip t-scores show osteopenia and really little fracture risk, your lumbar spine t-score does show you have significant fracture risk at a relatively young age to have this much bone loss at that location. OsteoPhase is certainly recommended to support bone health and growth, usually at 2 capsules, 2 times per day with a t-score that low. You would have to take the supplement consistently for a year before a follow up bone density test to see if it helps improve your spine scores. Also note that 80% of your fracture risk comes from poor balance and falls, so keep up your exercise, especially leg strength.

I have just taken a bone density test and received the following test results from my doctor: Lumbar Spine = T-score of -3.1
             Left Hip = T-score of -1.6
My doctor has suggested Fosamax, Actonel or Boniva. I am dead set against taking any of these drugs. Do you think OsteoPhase will help me? I am currently taking GNC Multi-Vitamins for Women over 50. I exercise at least 3 times per week at the local YMCA. I am 61 years old and am very active and healthy ---aside from my T-scores above.
Please advise.

Dear Denyse,
The articles on building bone density are all on the website, www.nutritionreview.org
Once at the website, just type in osteoporosis or OsteoPhase in the search engine and it will find the articles for you. As to your multi, we recommend a maximum of 600 mg. of calcium per day when you are also taking OsteoPhase.
